In this day and age all researchers will need some level of computer literacy. Your research might even require that you have to go beyond just learning how to use some computer applications and you might have to learn how to program a computer. If you are from a discipline other than computing this might seem like a daunting prospect.
However, in Research Computing, we specialise in teaching novices the basic skills that are required to do your own data analysis. To this end we have a learn-by-doing, 'code with me' approach. All our instructors are certified by The Carpentries. And, “No!” it has nothing to do with making things out of wood, it has to do with the fact the workshops are hands-on, practical and useful. Our workshops are not about software engineering and theory but rather an attempt to help researchers to be able to immediately apply what they have learnt.
